One night during our mandatory hospital birthing class, the teacher stopped her lecture on "The Vaginal Birth Process" and asked each of us to answer a question. "What are you looking forward to most about having a child?" I listened as each of the parents tried to provide the perfect answer..."to see them grow up" seemed to be the favorite, along with "what my wife said". But, as the pressure to articulate parental intent snaked its way around the room to me, I answered emphatically, "The comedy." It was as if I said, "selling them". Apparently the shock of the graphic birth video erased from their minds the idea that parenting was going to be fun. It has to be fun. I mean, why else would I sign up to gain 60lbs, twice, or be willing to say goodbye to the best pair of C cups a girl could ask for if it weren't for the guarantee that I would laugh every day for the rest of my life? So, I ventured into the world of the stay at home mom with full expectations that comedy would ensue.
So why then are there so few places for moms to go to share the comedy of parenting? As I read magazines for parents, visit websites for parents, etc., I am surprised to find the majority of the content either selling me something or scaring me about something. Many parent magazines seemed to cover the same material issue after issue and many "funny" mom blogs seem to be more like self therapy. I just want to laugh, at myself and with others who are laughing at themselves.
As a stay at home mommy, I have to time to take it for the team and provide a site for us to come, play and laugh. I pledge that just about everything on this site will make you laugh and if you contribute to this site, you must pledge the same.
